Brat Summer may be over, but in our discussions with clients, we’ve noticed a growing challenge—many leaders are struggling to engage their teams effectively. While much has been said about generational differences, particularly with Gen Z, our experience shows that workplace dynamics have always been complex. Every generation has its own idiosyncrasies, and the real challenge lies in finding ways to foster engagement and collaboration.
Just because someone approaches a task differently from you doesn’t mean they are wrong—it’s simply a different way of working. However, there’s a distinction between allowing flexibility and ensuring compliance. If a clear instruction has been given and not followed, then there’s a valid issue to address. That said, maintaining perspective is key—don’t let minor differences cause unnecessary frustration. Instead, create an environment that balances structure with autonomy, allowing team members to work in ways that suit them while still meeting business objectives.
At the same time, if employees consistently disregard clear expectations, action should be taken. The goal is to find common ground—leading in a way that aligns with your management style while giving employees the space to thrive.
